RIFT Review

Review By: Smokey

Finally an MMO for the masses to enjoy! RIFT is a brand new pay-to-play MMORPG by TRION that takes place in the world of Telara. Theres these magical portals called RIFTs that open up ocassionally and spawn enemies and other hostile foes who try to take over Telara. There are 2 separate 'clans' to choose from when you boot up RIFT for the first time, Guardians who protect Telara and Defiants who seek to destroy it. Which side will you play on? RIFT is often compared to other MMORPGs like World of Warcraft but personally, I find it much better then WoW. It's more entertaining, quests are better and there's no nonsense crap inbetween. RIFT takes the best of WoW and improves upon it, leaving the crappy stuff at the door. I've been playing RIFT for a few weeks now and thoroughly enjoy it. I look forward to every chance I get to boot up and step back into the mythical world of Telara.

RIFT also has many classes to choose from as well as species, there's your typical warrior, mage, elf and such but each has somewhat of a junior class that has it's own techniques and abilities. I"m currently playing as a BEASTMASTER. A warrior who can control beasts. Basically they have the power to summon pets or companion beasts whom aid them in battle and follow them around when they adventure the world of RIFT. A lot of things from RIFT are similar to World of Warcraft, but RIFT seems to be a better choice then WoW. RIFT isn't as overwhelming as World of Warcraft and there's no expansions for it yet, so you won't be buying a game and then have to spend another $160 to get all the expansions and be completely up to date. RIFT's subscription fees are also very affordable, you can check those out Here.

Players in RIFT collect "soul shards" that help them gain more powers and level up faster. These souls unlock new abilities that help make your character stronger and survive longer in battle. RIFT also has the typical mounts that one can purchase for the right price. When in a RIFT users team up with other players and form 'groups' that take down the RIFT that is currently occuring. Participating in RIFTs is a great way to gain exp points. A great alternative to questing to level up your character. The current level cap in RIFT is level 50 and they say that's when the game really begins and unlocks so much more to do and explore in the world of RIFT.

Overall, I'm enjoying RIFT. My main character is a low level, only level 11 or so but I plan on doing some power leveling soon enough. RIFT so far has been a super blast for me and I'm thoroughly enjoying the game. I have signed up for the founders subscription so it's very affordable for me at this point in time to pay to play. If you've been on the fence about RIFT and still aren't sure, check it out! Visit the official website.

The Verdict:

Gameplay: 9/10

Fun factor: 8/10

Sound: 8/10

Graphics: 8/10

Lasting Appeal: 7/10

Overall: 8.5/10
