Snake is back....errr sorta...in the 3rd installment of the Metal Gear Solid saga, Metal Gear Solid 3 Snake Eater. Now in HD! Metal Gear Solid 3 Snake eater is the first game in the Metal Gear series chronological. You play as a young Big Boss before he became Big Boss. Your codename is Naked Snake. Metal Gear Solid 3 was where it all started. A mission to soviet union territory to stop terrorists from launching a new bipedal nuclear weapon known as the Shagohod. The HD edition of this game is the subsistence version originally released on the PS2. Metal Gear Solid 3 introduced a lot of new features to the MGS series like slitting an enemy's throat with a combat knife. The use of camouflage to keep yourself hidden from your enemy with the use of different color costumes and face paints.

Naked Snake's mission is to infiltrate the armed fortress of Groznygrad and eliminate the Shagohod and his mentor and legendary soldier, "The Boss" who had betrayed her country by defecting to the soviet union. The game takes place in the 1960s during the cold war with an all new set of characters then previous titles but with one returning character, a young Revolver Ocelot. You get to see Ocelot as a young soldier and before he was given the name "Revolver". You will see why he isn't "Revolver Ocelot" in this game.

The cinematics in Metal Gear Solid 3 Snake Eater are wonderfully done. A lot of action throughout the scenes. The HD remastering really makes things look crisp and pop out at you. The only thing I've noticed that seems choppy and pretty awful is the small clips of Snake eating the wild life in the jungle. it looked choppy and 'broken' but beside that, it was beautifully done.

Overall, Metal Gear Solid 3 Subsistence's HD version is beautifully done and plays great on the PS3. One would assume it plays just as well on it's 360 counterpart. As part of the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection it's definitely a great way to get your feet wet with the Metal Gear series if you've never played a Metal Gear game before.

Gameplay - 9/10
Sound - 9/10
Graphics - 8/10
Overall - 9 out of 10

Metal Gear Solid HD Collection is available on PS3 and Xbox 360
